Amyris
Amyris is a small tree that grows on the slopes of the mountains in Central and South America, on the island of Haiti and Jamaica.
Because of the high content of essential oils in the wood and bark of the tree, amyris is widely used by the local population as a fuel for home heating, tying torches. By the way, hence the second name of amyris - "candle tree".
Amyris essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the split wood, wood chips and medium-sized branches. Extracted oil is used as a flavoring in spirits lower price range, some liqueurs and as a fixative in some varieties of soap.
According to its properties and aroma oil amyris is very similar to essential oil of sandalwood. This fact is often used by unscrupulous sellers (as in Russia and Ukraine, as well as in Europe and Asia), giving cheap oil amyris for more valuable sandalwood.
Amyris essential oil has expectorant, sedative and antispasmodic effect, which led to its use in medicine as a way to relieve chest pain, soothe coughs and lowering blood pressure. In addition, amyris oil is an aphrodisiac.
Fragrance – is unobtrusive, sweet, reminiscent of a vanilla and resinous wood mixture, sometimes approaching the cedar.
In the sauna amyris essential oil is preferably used in conjunction with flavors of lavender, juniper, geranium, ylang-ylang and lemon balm.
